Fourth of July Freak-Out

If I'm being honest here...
My Fourth of July SUCKED.
We had plans to meet up with the rest of my family at a friends house and have a cook-out and spend the day swimming.
While we were getting ready Ellie was in the hallway and tripped and smashed her face into the floor.
I was in her room getting things ready when I heard her scream.
Not  a pretty sight. I honestly thought that we were going to have to get her stitches because it was bleeding so much. At least in my mommy mind.
But it was really just a little spot where she bit her lip. She had a nice fat lip the rest of the day and apparently her fall put her in quite the crank ass mood.
We got to our friends house and she just screamed.
Screamed because she couldn't play with the screen door.
Screamed because she couldn't climb up and down the 200 steps from the deck to the ground.
Screamed because I wanted to change her diaper
...put sunblock on her
...feed her grapes
...change her diaper
...give her milk
...
Get the picture?
She was a real gem.
Mike took her outside for a little bit before lunch to give my ears a break and have a moment to catch my sanity.
(Praise God for husbands)
We had an amazing lunch of BBQ ribs and chicken, potato salad, corn cake, watermelon, and I'm sure more deliciousness but I can't remember over the sound of the screeching.
I brought dessert and I must say it was ah-mazing. I'm never asked to bring a side dish to a potluck-only dessert. Don't let me fool you, I'm not that great in the kitchen, I'm just great with a mouse.
Thank you Pinterest

The best part of the day was when Ellie was down for her nap and Mike and I were able to lounge in the pool for an hour or so. However payback will come for dunking me mid-sentence and making me swallow half the pool water.
It may be tomorrow, it may be next week, it may be next month, you'll never know but beware Mr.

When Ellie woke up I tried to bring her out into the pool and she was immediately back into Raptor mode with the screeching. Evidently our little water baby from last summer is not so keen on floating around in the pool this year.
So I told Mike eff this, let's go home. We got home, had dinner, let Ellie throw some poppers on the ground, gave her a bath, and put the crank to bed!
It's like she knows when I'm looking forward to doing something or when I'm thinking we'll have an easy day and she's all "Nope!"
Maybe next year will be more fun..right?!?

However, I do have to say if I fell and smacked my face on the hardwood I would probably be in a pretty foul mood the rest of the day.
And by probably I mean definitely.
Every one would feel my wrath.
(I wonder where she gets her personality from...)

Our Love Story

Linking up with From Mrs to Mama to share our love story

How long have you and your significant other been together?
My husband and I have been together for a total of 10+ years. We have been married for 4 years.

How did you meet? {What's your "love" story?}
We actually met when I was a Freshman in High School and he was "going out" with one of my close friends and I told her I thought he was cute. She actually introduced us and told me she would break up with him so I could "go out" with him. Oh silly teenage girls! Mind you- I wasn't allowed to "date" so there wasn't much "going out" until I was 16.
If you are married, where did you get married at? Big or small wedding?
We were married in my hometown church by my Uncle. It was in the beginning of February and we had a pretty big snow-storm the Thursday before the wedding. Everything went perfectly, I just wish I had spent more time taking it all in. It went by so fast! It wasn't a huge wedding, but I would say there were probably 200+ guests.

Do you have any nick-names that you call one another?
He calls me Shell (along with all my other family members) and sometimes I call him Suze. Sometimes there is a random babe, hon, etc thrown in there.
Name 3 things you love most about your honey.
He is such an amazing Father, He is hard-working and always provides for us, and he is always there to help anyone.
Tell us how he proposed?
He made me a scrapbook that commemorated all the years we have been together and the last page said "will you marry me." I was 19 and he was 22.

Is he a flowers and teddy bear kind of guy for v-day, or strawberries, champagne, and rose petals?
I would have to say he is more of a flowers and teddy bear kind of guy. He just came home on his lunch break with a card and a 6 pack of Reece's. He knows the way to my heart :)
Are you a sunset dinner on the beach kind of girl, or pop a movie in and relax on the couch?
Typically I would rather stay home and relax together, but I am never one to pass up a romantic evening out!
Tell us one thing you'd like to do with your significant one day.
I would love to take a Mediterranean cruise with him and travel to different countries.
Tell us what you plan on doing on this Valentine's Day.
We went to dinner and a movie last weekend, so today I am spending it at home with my sweet daughter. (Who was kind enough to throw up all over the carpet this morning. Happy Valentine's Day to me!)

Are you asking for anything this Valentine's day?
All I ever want is for him to do something showing that he was thinking of me. A card is all I need. But I would never say no to diamonds!
Give us one piece of advice of keeping a relationship strong and full of love.
Don't sweat the small stuff, pick your battles carefully, and always make sure to show how much you appreciate your Husband. Remember that no matter what you are responsible for your actions, love him no matter what.
Show us a picture of what love means to you.

Christmas Re-Cap

Since both Mike and I's parents are divorced we have a lot of get togethers around the holidays.

Christmas Eve we went to his mom's house to celebrate

We had a great time with family and Ellie got plenty of new toys and outfits!

Christmas morning we woke up, I made some coffee cake, we read the Christmas story and opened presents as a family. Our plan is to only give 3 gifts per person plus stocking stuffers.
We figure if that was good enough for Jesus then it should be good enough for us. And I think it will help us focus about what Christmas is really about instead of the comericialization.

In the afternoon we headed over to Mike's dad's house for the H family Christmas

Mike's family goes all out. We're always spoiled and we all got some awesome presents!

This weekend we will be celebrating Christmas with my side of the family.
Saturday we have the H family Christmas, which can be up to 40+ people.
And Sunday after church we have our siblings Christmas.

November thru January is a busy busy time of year for us!!

So far we've had a great holiday season and are so thankful for our friends and family.
We are most thankful for the gift of Salvation. God is so good to us and I am so blessed to be a daughter of the King.
"But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.  Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord."

I hope you all had a blessed Christmas and enjoyed wonderful time with your friends and family!!

Glitz and Glam

I saw Raven was doing a Christmas gift blog swap this year and I knew I couldn't pass it up!
Who doesn't like girly, glittery presents??
And I'm always down for any excuse to shop!

I was paired up with Ashley and was so excited when I got her present in the mail.

That is seriously my favorite color of nail polish!
How did you know??
I was just thinking the other day I need to accessorize my wardrobe and then
BAM
A bracelet, earrings and scarf come in the mail.

Ashley, are you a mind reader?

It's so awesome to "meet" new people that you would have otherwise never known.
Blogging is the best.

Thanks so much for all the awesome gifts!

Wanna see what I sent her??
Head on over to Ashley's and check it out!

Our little fairy

Trick or Treating only goes from 6:00-7:00 in our town.
I remember going for HOURS when I was a kid.
I would come home with enough candy to last until Easter.

Last night we sat outside for about 45 minutes and passed out candy to the few little kids that came by.
And the not so little teens and adults that were trick or treating.
It was pretty frickin cold so we didn't last the whole hour.

I got Ellie's costume like 2 weeks ago. I wasn't even sure if I was going to get her anything since Mike was going to be at work and it was just going to be me and her home alone. But since it was her first Halloween I couldn't not dress her up in something adorable. Since I waited until the last minute there wasn't much of a selection left but I did save $30 off the asking price!!!
So she is a little fairy princess (???)
And I think she looked adorable anyways.
Maybe next year we will go all out and I will come up with an awesome original idea.

We came inside to warm up our little fairy before a bath and bedtime.

No she didn't eat any of the candy.
Yes I am that mean mom that doesn't let my 10.5 month old eat sweets.
I have some crazy idea that I want her to develop good eating habits from the get go and I don't want to feed her a ton of sweets and sugar.
Insane right?

After we put the little munchkin to bed we watched Captain America and munched on our leftover candy.
It was actually a pretty good movie.
I wanted to watch a scary movie-not TOO scary- but the stupid movie store didn't have The Uninvited.
But I will still be renting it as soon as the slackers that have had it for over a week turn it in.

Happy Halloween!!!
